Shane Cotee from The Adaptive will be performing two uplifting sets at UNIFY FEST 2016 in Santa Fe!
The Adaptive (previously theAdaptive) is the primary musical project of Shane Cotee (Portland, Oregon, USA). The name is also used for his identity as a photographer from the popularity of @theadaptive’s revered Instagram account.
Shane spent his youth in the mountains of northern Arizona, followed by California, upstate New York, New Mexico, and Idaho. He first began sneaking into his parents’ room to play his father’s cheap acoustic guitar at around 12 years old. Shane’s rarely-documented, varied, and experimental musical history is outlined below.
After years of being a metalhead guitarist and obscure music collector, Shane has a deep appreciation for more genres of music than most people can even name. He may be the only person you’d ever meet who loves Enya, Gorguts, Shpongle, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and weird ethnic music.
Ten years after first experimenting with synths and software, it was time to combine all of these elements into a single project. That’s when The Adaptive was born.
The Adaptive has quickly grabbed the attention of electronic and traditional music fans by combining modern “melodic bass music”, live electric guitar & percussion, and a strong emphasis on visual effects & dancers. Previous shows include performances with Phutureprimitive, Bluetech, The Human Experience, Random Rab, saQi, and Temple Step Project. Recent shows include a New Year’s midnight set at Cosmic Convergence Festival (Lake Atitlan, Guatemala) and a show with modern psytrance legend Smoke Sign.
With strong intentions to keep the momentum going, The Adaptive is currently working on upcoming shows and continuing to write songs that connect with crowds across the globe.
